Aim

The aim of the project is Polish-Swiss collaboration by jointly developing novel nanoscale spintronic devices based on the innovative spin transfer torque (ST) effect, which promises unrivaled future scaling, flexibility and low power consumption making this approach particularly suitable for GreenIT information and communication technology devices.

 

The working principle of memory, logic and in particular nano-oscillators based on ST is to manipulate the magnetization by using spin-polarized currents rather than by applying conventional magnetic fields. While the ST effect was discovered a few years ago, for instance devices such as commercial ST oscillators are still unavailable because essentially an understanding of the factors that govern the characteristics of the spin-torque-induced oscillations is lacking, and this limits the efforts to develop competitive devices.

 

To achieve in-depth understanding, we will propose a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of spin-dependent transport and spin-transfer torques in specially designed nanostructures.
